The Courtyard House

The Courtyard House is a sensitive alteration and addition to an existing heritage residence. The design retains the character and significant elements of the original home while introducing a contemporary rear addition suited to modern family life.

A central courtyard brings natural light and ventilation into the interior and creates a considered transition between the heritage rooms and the new open-plan living spaces. Through restrained materials and clearly defined new interventions, the project balances preservation, functionality and contemporary living.
